The rise of online learning in recent years has led to an increase in the number of people learning Welsh as adults, particularly outside of Wales, and more diversity in the way in which the language is learned. Drawing on a quantitative questionnaire completed by 746 Welsh learners, 47.5% of whom lived outside of Wales, this chapter examines the motivations of Welsh learners and the extent to which such motivations are influenced by social factors.
